Ural engineers who launched small-scale production of Burlak arctic all-terrain vehicles in Ekaterinburg, sent two vehicles to Chukotka Autonomous Okrug to transport goods. This was announced to TASS on Monday by the chief designer of the project Alexei Makarov.
“Two Burlak arctic AT vehicles of cargo configuration left for Anadyr to work. Before sending the vehicles were tested: we drove the route along the highway, maneuvered along narrow streets, swept through swampy terrain and open water with and without cargo. Climbing up and down the hills, with full load and empty, was also tested,” the agency interlocutor said.
Makarov added that at the request of the customer, the tilt-covered body was replaced by the all-metal one with additional insulation.
“With this delivery we will test service support, AT vehicles will be transported to Vladivostok on lowboy trailers, and then they will go by sea to Chukotka. Based on all characteristics, the AT vehicle is unrivalled. This is the vehicle that is necessary for organizations that have to transport goods and people at minimal cost in harsh climatic conditions,” he explained.
The vehicles are prepared for driving both on winter roads and in deep snow. Part of the AT vehicle is based on serial components, however, but the design has a number of original parts developed by the Ural company Makar Offroad. Burlak consumes 40 liters of fuel per 100 km, it provides autonomous fueling for half a ton of fuel.
About the project
Assembled and tested by a group of Ural engineers in 2016, Burlak became the ancestor of a new class of multi-purpose Russian arctic all-terrain vehicles, but it turned out to be too heavy to go on thin sea ice and hardly went ashore.
Soon, Burlak 2.0 was built, which became lighter by one and a half ton and more powerful. Its tests took place in February-March 2017, the team followed the same route as in 2016: through Inta and Vorkuta (Komi Republic) to Baydaratskaya Bay (one of the largest bays in the Kara Sea) and back through Labytnangi (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug), Ivdel (Sverdlovsk Oblast) and Ekaterinburg.
In 2017, in the vicinity of Ekaterinburg, Burlak cargo version was also successfully tested, it is suitable for transporting goods, people, equipment in impassable places and at low temperatures. Thanks to low-pressure tires, the AT vehicle does not damage the soil cover and is suitable for operation in nature reserves and other places closed for entry.
